Dine at Douneside

One simple philosophy, source the best and cook with care

Choose between The Conservatory and The Library, where ingredients come fresh from our kitchen garden and the finest local producers across Royal Deeside and Scotland. Expect thoughtfully chosen wines and a relaxed, attentive service.

Two dining rooms

The same kitchen.
Two different evenings.

All day · Lunch and dinner

The Conservatory

Light pours in from the terrace garden. The space changes with the seasons, the same plants and flowers that grow outside, brought in. Open seven days for dinner. On Saturdays, lunch and afternoon tea are served. Our renowned Sunday Lunch is a particular highlight, attracting guests from near and far.

Three AA Rosettes · Fine dining

The Library

Antiques, open fire, candlelight. The Library is where the tasting menu is served Thursday to Saturday, wine-paired, unhurried, and very much worth the evening. Tables for two to twelve. Private dining available. Non-residents very welcome, reservations essential.

The kitchen garden

Organic and home grown,
exclusively for our guests to enjoy

Most country house hotels source locally. At Douneside it begins eighty yards away. The walled kitchen garden grows over eighty varieties of vegetables, fruit and herbs, all organically tended by the same team that has worked these grounds for years.

Wander our walled kitchen garden before you sit down to dine, and discover the wonderful array of organic fruit and vegetables, grown with care by our gardening team, to be enjoyed in both our restaurants.

Where it comes from

Beyond the garden,
only the best of Scotland.

The Garden
Our walled kitchen garden
Eighty-plus organically grown varieties, picked the same morning they appear on your plate.
The Butcher
HM Sheridan of Ballater
Royal Warrant butcher, eight miles down the Dee. Aberdeen Angus and game from estates we know by name.
The Sea
Peterhead day boats
Blue-flag fish landed at the harbour each morning. On the menu the same evening it left the water.
The Cellar
A list worth lingering over
Curated by a sommelier once named the United Kingdom's finest. Old World classics, new-wave finds.

Dining in your cottage

The kitchen comes to your door

Cottage and apartment guests can have dinner delivered directly to their door — the full menu, freshly prepared.

Afternoons

Afternoon tea
in Royal Deeside

Served in The Conservatory or, on fine days, on the Arts and Crafts terrace with the gardens spread below. The same kitchen, the same produce — just a slower afternoon.

Saturday, 2.30pm – 3.30pm. Non-residents welcome. Booking essential.

A place for guests to gather

The MacRobert's Reply Bar

Exclusively for residents of Douneside House, the MacRobert Reply Bar is a relaxed and welcoming space to unwind throughout your stay. Sink into a comfortable chair beside the open fire, enjoy freshly brewed coffee and homemade cake during the afternoon, or linger over conversation with a handcrafted cocktail or a dram of whisky as evening falls. It is a place to slow down, reflect on the day and simply enjoy the comfort of the house.

Our thoughtfully curated drinks menu includes an exceptional selection of Scotch whiskies, fine wines, Champagnes, local ales and signature cocktails, alongside speciality teas, barista-style coffees and light refreshments served throughout the day. Whether you're returning from a walk across the estate or gathering before dinner, the MacRobert Reply Bar offers a warm and peaceful setting, reserved exclusively for those staying at Douneside.
