The rooms

A home from home
in Royal Deeside

The team at Douneside have been here for years, some for decades. They know the house the way you come to know a place you care about: which rooms catch the evening light, which path through the gardens is worth taking before breakfast.

Rooms fall into three categories — Small Cosy Double, Classic, and Deluxe — but within each, every room has its own character. Different outlooks, different proportions, different reasons to linger.

Three rooms

Deluxe

Our three Deluxe rooms — Lady MacRobert, Alasdair, and Iain — enjoy a south-facing position overlooking the gardens, with views extending across the infinity lawn towards the Howe o’Cromar. The outlook changes with the light and seasons, combining immediate gardens, sweeping lawns, and mountains beyond.

Thoughtfully furnished with antique pieces, each room also features a freestanding bath and a hospitality tray with a selection of local whiskies.

Four rooms & the suite

Classic

Individually furnished and thoughtfully positioned to capture the estate’s changing light, each Classic room offers a different perspective — woodland views from one side, sweeping scenes across Royal Deeside from another.

No two Classic rooms are the same. One, aptly named The Terrace, features its own private south-facing terrace — the perfect spot for a glass of wine before dinner. Our Lochnagar Classic room includes a separate sitting room with a double sofa bed, making it especially well suited to families wanting to share the atmosphere of the main house.

Three rooms

Small Cosy Double

Our smallest rooms often have the biggest personalities. With low ceilings, intimate proportions, and carefully chosen antique pieces, each space is full of charm and character. Rooms overlook either the courtyard or the quieter side of the estate for a more peaceful stay.

Every room features a handcrafted Hypnos mattress, made in Britain and holders of a Royal Warrant from His Majesty King Charles III. Renowned for exceptional comfort, it’s our way of ensuring you have everything needed to rest, recharge, and sleep exceptionally well.
