For generations, Douneside has welcomed members of the Armed Forces. Today, the Military Club continues that tradition, celebrating a shared history while offering eligible serving and retired personnel a lasting connection with the House.

Douneside House has a proud, and long-standing connection with the Armed Forces. Owned and run by The MacRobert Trust, many in the military will know the story of Lady Rachel MacRobert, and her sacrifices during the Second World War.
Today, eligible serving and retired members of the Armed Forces are warmly invited to join the Douneside Military Club. Members receive exclusive rates on stays throughout the year. A one-off nominal membership fee applies.

Owned and run by The MacRobert Trust, the Douneside Military Club is one of the ways that connection continues today.
The MacRobert story
MacRobert’s Reply,
and a legacy of service.
Lady Rachel MacRobert’s sons Alasdair, Roderic and Iain all died before reaching old age. Roderic and Iain were lost during the Second World War while serving with the RAF.
In response, Lady MacRobert made a gift to purchase a bomber for the RAF, asking that it be named MacRobert’s Reply. The name has continued through successive RAF aircraft, becoming one of the most recognised parts of the MacRobert story.

Membership is designed for eligible Armed Forces guests who want to make Douneside part of their visits to Royal Deeside. Full membership benefits are provided once membership is confirmed by the Douneside Military Club Secretary. A joining fee, to cover membership administration, of £10 applies.
Year-round member rates
Eligible members can access special Douneside Military Club rates and benefits throughout the year.
Friends and Family discount
Members can access friends and family rates, for non-members.

Who can apply
Open to all ranks,
serving and retired.
The Douneside Military Club is open to eligible members of the Armed Forces, including serving and retired personnel, regulars, reserves, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and those from NATO and Commonwealth countries. Widows and widowers of eligible military personnel may also apply.
Applications are reviewed before membership access is confirmed.

Douneside is open to all guests. Its military connection does not make it exclusive; it gives the house part of its character. Today, guests come for calm gardens, warm hospitality, estate cottages, rooms in the house, thoughtful dining and the feeling of being somewhere with a reason to exist.
