Beech Belt Trail

If you’re familiar with the hit HBO’s series Game of Thrones® then you will be familiar with the popular woods ‘The Dark Hedges’. Although not as famous, The Beech Line offers a fantastic alternative. With its twisting tree trunks and narrow paths – this walk is a hidden gem. Lush green in the summer, ablaze in copper orange in the autumn and blanketed with frost in the Winter. The magical atmosphere combined with sweeping views of the Howe of Cromar makes this walk truly spectacular.

Tomnaverie Stone Circle

2.1 miles from Douneside
This 3.5 km loop trail near Tarland typically takes around 50 minutes to complete. The path leads to a hilltop located about 1.2 km (three-quarters of a mile) southeast of the village of Tarland, where you’ll find the ancient Tomnaverie Stone Circle. This well-preserved recumbent stone circle, dating back to the Neolithic period offers a glimpse into Scotland’s prehistoric past and provides panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Muir of Dinnet
