Douneside House, the AA’s Hotel of the Year (Scotland) 2017/18 offers bespoke exclusive use wedding packages and can accommodate up to 58 adults, with 13 bedrooms in the main house and a selection of one – three bedroom dog friendly cottages and apartments in the beautiful grounds.
From the moment you arrive, you can instantly relax and to help plan your day we have included some ideas to make your two day wedding package truly memorable
Day 1 – The Day Before the Wedding:
From the moment you arrive, you can instantly relax by taking a deep breath of the countryside air, infused with magnificent aromas from the 17 acres of Douneside gardens. Douneside House is exclusively yours for the next two days, we want to make sure it feels like your Scottish Countryside retreat!
Take a step back in time and settle into our very popular “Lady MacRobert” deluxe bedroom, where you can enjoy a glass of champagne overlooking Howe O’ Cromar and terrace garden and await the arrival of your wedding guests
Why not take advantage of our Health Club facilities, where you can enjoy a relaxing swim or join a yoga class in our Health Club with your Bridesmaids for some pre-wedding day relaxation.
By 6pm we hope that most of your family and friends have arrived and settled into their accommodation. You have Douneside exclusively, so all friends and family can gather in the bar where they can sample local beers, gins or single malts to name a few. We would recommend a relaxed dinner the night before the wedding – we work closely with our Royal Warrant Butcher who can offer delicious outdoor BBQ options.
Day 2 – The Big Day:
Your special day has arrived! At Douneside we pride ourselves in keeping our wedding couples as relaxed as possible and our lovely Front of House Manager Melanie handles everything on the wedding day from wedding photographers arriving, florists, make-up artists or wedding cars if you are getting married at one of the local churches – you won’t need to worry about a thing!
Start your magical day with a hearty Scottish breakfast served in the restaurant or served in your bridal suite whilst you get ready, this can of course be accompanied with a nice chilled glass of bucks fizz.
Many family and friends arrange some family games on the front lawn the morning of the wedding – you can watch your wedding guests play putting, croquet or rounders whilst you get ready in Lady MacRobert’s suite.
With Tarland Golf Club at the bottom of our drive, some of the wedding party might fancy a game before the ceremony.
Douneside can help you organise a civil or religious ceremonies in our conservatory over looking our beautiful gardens or on a sunny day on the front lawn over looking the Howe O’Cromar. If you’re looking for a small wedding for two– perhaps only with a few witnesses, our library is an elegant location.
After the wedding ceremony, enjoy some champagne and canapes whilst you mingle, we do recommend some light background music whether it’s of the traditional Scottish Clarsach or a jazzier affair with a string quartet.
Now for the wedding breakfast: it’s time to sit down for the dreaded speech (this will be over before you know it), accompanied with some fine wines to start the evening of an unforgettable 3 AA Rosette dining experience. Our Head Chef David Butters has created a selection of wedding menus for you to choose from, using only the best local ingredients including organically grown herbs, fruits and vegetable from our very own kitchen garden. Of course, you can create your own menu – we’re delighted to accommodate your request.
As your wedding day comes to a close, none of your guests or wedding party have to worry about getting home – the furthest any will have to walk (or stumble!) is a short five minute walk to one of our holiday cottages!
Day 3 – Farewell:
The next morning all your guests will gather together for breakfast before bidding farewell.
