We have included some information on this page to help communicate the steps we have taken to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors to Douneside House.
We have reviewed our entire operation to ensure we create a very safe environment whilst not losing the character and relaxed atmosphere that our guests are accustomed to. We have had to make some adjustments to how we work, how we interact with colleagues and guests, how we look after the hotel and health club, and how we deliver our guest service – to maintain the highest standards of safety and hygiene at all times in line with government guidance.
The use of face masks is mandatory in hotel and health club public areas unless you are seated in our bar, Library or Conservatory restaurant. Hand sanitiser will be available throughout the hotel and health club, we ask that you please use these before entering different areas. We'd be most grateful if you could follow the safety signage on display.
We have updated team protocols, and an enhanced set of hygiene and safety measures that meet or exceed government guidelines, have been implemented across our hotel and health club to provide even greater peace of mind during your time with us. We will, of course, continue to work with public health authorities to enable us to adjust and update those measures in line with the very latest guidance.
Douneside House has always focused on offering some of the finest Scottish hospitality, where we welcome you from the stresses of everyday life – so it’s important to note that none of the changes we’ve made will compromise that; on the contrary they’ve been carefully designed and implemented to ensure you can focus on enjoying yourself.
If you are considering booking with us in the future, we ask that you familiarise yourself with our new approach and help us to protect the wellbeing of everyone who comes to Douneside House.
Our Front of House team will be ready to welcome you with the usual warm Douneside welcome. In line with Government guidance, we ask if you could wear a face mask when you are moving around the building and maintain a 1m social distance from our team and guests from other households. Our team will still provide our usual welcome and (if it's your first time visiting) guided tour. Our public spaces and health club will be deep cleaned in the morning, afternoon and evening (and high contact surfaces will be regularly cleaned throughout the day).
Our experienced housekeeping team are undertaking many additional cleaning routines ahead of your visit and your room or cottage will be fully sanitised ahead of your arrival. If you would prefer your room is not serviced each day of your stay, please let a member of our Front of House team know.
Our Library and Conservatory restaurants are currently strictly by reservation only, regrettably we will not be able to accommodate you without a reservation. Our bar will be open from 1200-2300 each day.
Table reservations are currently limited to no more than three households.
Please explore our ‘dining page’ to view our latest menus.
We have made some changes to ensure the Health Club can remain open, with safety measures in place.
We’re delighted that our pool, spa pool, steam room, sauna, gymnasium and fitness classes all remain available. Please note that mixed households are prohibited within our sauna, steam room and spa pool.
All visitors (including members and hotel guests) must pre-book their visit for a swim or fitness class. There is no requirement to pre-book gym or tennis sessions, but we do ask if you can check in at the health club reception when you arrive. You can book sessions directly with a member of our Front of House or Health Club team.
We ask that guests come dressed for their gym session or swimming session if possible.
Children under the age of 16yrs must have an adult (over the age of 18yrs) accompany them in the swimming pool (no supervision from the poolside). Those who do not have a swimming session booked are not allowed into the pool area and viewing areas are not available.
Access to the Gym is for over 16yrs only.
Children under the age of 16 years and all non-swimmers must be accompanied in the swimming pool at all times by a competent adult (18 years and over) swimmer. There will be a maximum of two children under the age of 16 years or non-swimmers per competent adult swimmer, at any one time.
Following Storm Arwen, a small part of our gardens will remain closed whilst our gardens team work hard on ensuring all footpaths are safe for our guests.
